Acrospire wins Sustainable Project of the Year at the 2025 HEA Awards

We are thrilled to announce that Acrospire has been awarded the Sustainable Project of the Year at the 2025 HEA Awards for our recent LED handrail upgrade on the Millennium Bridge in Newport.

Designed by Grimshaw Architects and open to the public in 2006, the Millennium Bridge stands as an essential connection for pedestrians and cyclists, blending the city’s industrial heritage with modern architecture. Our project focused on upgrading the existing handrail lighting to enhance safety and improve energy efficiency.

In collaboration with Centregreat, we retrofitted 178 outdated 28W fluorescent tubes with energy-efficient 12W LED gear trays. This upgrade not only meets safety requirements but also achieves a remarkable 57% reduction in energy consumption.

The warm 3000K LEDs ensure a comfortable atmosphere while minimising light spill, helping to protect the local river habitat.

We would like to congratulate all worthy award-winners, nominees, and the HEA for another fantastic event, which is always a highlight in the industry calendar.
