Affordable near-home EV charging comes to Trafford as Amey chooses evpzee

Amey is set to install its first electric vehicle (EV) charge points in collaboration with Trafford Council, supported by on-column charging technology from evpzee.

The partnership will deliver up to 100 new public chargers across Trafford, offering residents greater choice and supporting more communities to make the switch to EVs. The network will provide affordable, accessible, and easy-to-use solutions so people can charge close to home, particularly those without driveways or off-street parking.

By using evpzee’s on-column chargers, built directly into existing street lighting infrastructure, the rollout avoids disruptive groundworks and additional street furniture, while reducing installation costs and visual impact. Each installation takes less than 30 minutes, providing a faster, lower-impact alternative to traditional on-street charging solutions.

All charge points will be powered by 100 per cent zero carbon energy, reinforcing Amey’s commitment to decarbonisation, while supporting Trafford Council’s climate goals and the government’s transition to zero emission vehicles.

Peter Anderson, Managing Director of Transport Infrastructure at Amey, said in their recent press release:
“This is a pivotal moment in Amey’s energy transition strategy. By leveraging our extensive experience in whole lifecycle asset management, strong partnerships, and innovative solutions, we can deliver value for both our clients and members of the public who will use Amey’s electric vehicle charge points.

Working with Trafford Council, we are making electric vehicle charging more accessible to local communities and helping residents make the switch to EVs. Amey is well-positioned to support emerging opportunities within this landscape and we are delighted to be working with Trafford and other local authorities to provide the public EV infrastructure needed to achieve the government’s transition to net zero.”

Richard Roe, Trafford Council’s Corporate Director of Place, said:
“We are delighted to be working with Amey on this project to bring more and better charging options to the people of Trafford. This is an extension to the current EV charging options in the borough and is great news for committed EV owners and those who are thinking about going electric.”

The project utilises City Region Sustainable Transport Settlements (CRSTS) funding to trial and deliver sustainable public EV charging infrastructure in residential areas across Trafford, with a particular focus on supporting households without off-street parking.

Neil Purdue, Technical Director at evpzee, added:
“We’re proud to support Amey and Trafford Council in making near-home charging more accessible and affordable. By using existing street lighting infrastructure, we can help local authorities expand public charging quickly and cost-effectively, giving more residents the confidence to make the switch to electric vehicles.”

Amey will begin installing EV charge points in Trafford in the coming weeks.
