Newport Millennium Bridge lighting retrofit named finalist in ECN Awards 2025

We’re proud to share that our Newport Millennium Bridge lighting retrofit has been shortlisted in the Lighting Project of the Year category at the ECN Awards 2025.

Delivered in partnership with Newport City Council, the project involved the retrofit of energy-efficient LED modules into the bridge’s existing stainless steel handrail system. The result? A sleek, low-glare lighting upgrade that enhances pedestrian and cyclist safety, without altering the bridge’s clean, contemporary appearance. With the structure’s architectural lines playing such a key role in its visual identity, every detail of the scheme was carefully considered and precision-engineered to blend in seamlessly.

The project showcases how modern lighting technology can be integrated into existing infrastructure without compromise. By designing a bespoke retrofit solution that reused existing handrail components, we were able to minimise disruption, reduce waste, and improve energy performance, delivering a future-ready upgrade with minimal environmental impact.

Tim Barker, Managing Director at Acrospire comments, “This recognition from the judges is especially rewarding and is the result of excellent collaboration between our team and the council, and a demonstration of the growing demand for conscious yet effective lighting solutions in public realm spaces.

The winners will be announced on 4th December 2025, at the Heart of England Conference & Events Centre in Coventry.
