Following a series of lighting upgrades and challenges with water ingress, Suffolk Highways launched a project to replace the existing SON Victorian-style heritage lanterns throughout Hamilton Gardens.
Positioned directly adjacent to the coastline the location is a fine representation of Edwardian and Victorian architecture. It also boasts views of colourful beach huts and four miles of picturesque sand and shingle beaches.
One of the key requirements of the project was to bring consistency to the colour temperatures, which were a mix-match due to previous replacements at different times.
With such close proximity to the sea, the chosen lanterns needed to withstand the demanding operating conditions and stand up to saltwater weathering.
Carl Lockwood, Street Lighting Engineer, Suffolk Highways, describes, “The scheme was to replace Victorian heritage lanterns at Hamilton Gardens, Felixstowe. As this installation is directly on the East Coast, it was imperative that the lanterns were of a high-quality build supported with a long warranty period.”
